Mareeba Shire has two off-leash dog parks with access available 24 hours, 7 days a week

Kuranda: Gregory Terrace Park

Mareeba: Doyle Street Mareeba, across from the back entrance of Davies Park.

The parks provide ample space where pets can exercise freely, play with their owners and socialise with other dogs. The area is securely fenced with trees for shade, bench seating for park users, water fountains for people and dogs, a bin and dog litter bags for owners to clean up after their pets.

Regular exercise will improve the mental health and physical wellbeing of both you and your dog. It is also proven to reduce nuisance behaviour such as barking, digging holes and destructive outbursts.

Along with the benefits come responsibilities, here are a few simple rules to make your visit to the off-leash area pleasant for you, your dog and other park users.

  • Dogs must be leashed at all times prior to entering and upon leaving the off-leash area
  • Respect other park users and clean up after your dog and place waste in the bins provided
  • Fill in holes your dog digs as they create a safety hazard for others
  • All dogs must have a valid local government registration tag attached to their collar
  • Ensure you comply with all signs and boundaries and carry a leash at all times. You must leash your dog immediately if aggressive behaviour is demonstrated
  • Your dog must be under your effective control for the entire time it is off-leash. Effective control means your dog responds to your command and remains close to you.

MAREEBA: The area is a multipurpose facility where the space inside the park is used on occasions such as during Christmas in July for grey nomads to park their caravans. Should this be the case the park will be signed as closed and Council will provide advice through social media. Pet owners are asked not to bring their dogs here for three or four days whilst the festivities are underway.
